dbc-cli is an open-source cli tool made for educational purposes to explore the structure of Blizzard WDBC-archives.

It was tested on a 3.3.5 client but others will [probably] work as well.

Installation

Go-way

go install codeberg.org/dickus/dbc-cli@latest

Make sure your $GOPATH is in your $PATH.

Build from source

Clone the repo.

git clone https://codeberg.org/dickus/dbc-cli.git

Locally

Run make install-local.

Make sure that $HOME/.local/bin is in your $PATH.

System-wide

Run sudo make install.

Usage

Unpack

dbc-cli <FILE>.dbc

Pack

dbc-cli <FILE>.csv

How to add WDBC schema

1. Create a path ${HOME}/.config/dbc-cli/schemas/
2. Create a .yml with the same name as .dbc-file you want to work with inside of the path. I.e. if you want to work with Spell.dbc, create a Spell.yml.
3. Fill the file according to the template below:

# field_size is required in cases when field size is less than 4 bytes. For example, in CharBaseInfo.dbc field size is only 1 byte. In this case, set field_size to 1. Otherwise you can leave it at 4.

# columns contains strings of columns names from a .dbc. It will show up in .csv to help you get around the data.
columns:
  - ID
  - Name
  - Scale

# strings sets all the columns it contains to strings. It works for names, descriptions, etc.
strings:
  - Name

# floats sets all the columns it contains to floats. It works for things like scale, coordinates, etc.
floats:
  - Scale

# All columns are integer if not specified as float or string. Setting the right types is required for `dbc-cli` to know how exactly to pack .csv into .dbc.
