Overview

Package jcs implements the RFC 8785 subset frozen by the Sluice server, whose live implementation is backend/pkg/app/core/jcs.go in the sluice repository.

The subset accepts integers and strings, rejects duplicate object keys, floating-point/exponent notation, invalid UTF-8, and unpaired UTF-16 surrogates. Empty input is treated as {}. This implementation intentionally follows the server's encoding/json + UseNumber behavior rather than a different JCS library.

Object property names are ordered by UTF-16 code units (RFC 8785 §3.2.3), not by Go's sort.Strings UTF-8 byte order — see sortJCSKeys/lessUTF16 below and the U+10000 vs U+E000 assertion in jcs_test.go. This package used to cite contract-input/reference/jcs-server-reference.go.txt as its frozen reference; that copy was removed because it had gone stale on exactly this rule (it still called sort.Strings) while nothing in the pin gate hashed it. Reimplementing from it would have produced request fingerprints that differ from both this package and the live server on non-BMP property names.

CanonicalizeJSON canonicalizes raw JSON according to the frozen server subset. It returns canonical UTF-8 JSON without surrounding whitespace.
