Safety

PureWin is engineered with safety as the foundation:

NEVER_DELETE Protection

Critical system paths are hardcoded as off-limits. PureWin will refuse to touch:

  • C:\Windows
  • C:\Program Files
  • C:\Program Files (x86)
  • User profile root directories

Whitelist System

Protect specific caches you want to keep:

pw clean --whitelist

Whitelisted items are persisted in your config and skipped during cleanup.

Dry-Run Mode

Preview exactly what will be deleted before committing:

pw clean --dry-run

Enable persistent dry-run mode in config:

# Edit %LOCALAPPDATA%\purewin\config.toml
dry_run = true

Clear Confirmation Prompts

Every destructive operation requires explicit user confirmation with detailed previews. No surprises.

Building from Source

git clone https://github.com/lakshaymaurya-felt/purewin.git
cd purewin
go build -o pw.exe .

Build with Version Info

go build -ldflags="-X github.com/lakshaymaurya-felt/purewin/cmd.appVersion=1.0.0" -o pw.exe .

Configuration

PureWin stores its config at %LOCALAPPDATA%\purewin\config.toml:

# Enable persistent dry-run mode (preview only, never delete)
dry_run = false

# Whitelisted caches (never cleaned)
whitelist = [
    "C:\\Users\\You\\AppData\\Local\\SomeApp\\cache"
]

# Auto-update check interval (hours)
update_check_interval = 24
