README

timerbench

Timerbench measures Go timer delivery latency across a range of requested durations, exposing the timer floor, precision, and coalescing behavior of the runtime and underlying OS.

To install:

go install github.com/mauri870/timerbench@latest

To run without installing:

go run github.com/mauri870/timerbench@latest

Usage

timerbench [-n samples] [-buckets count]

For each tested duration, timerbench fires a timer and records how long it actually took to fire. It prints a histogram for the duration where the floor is most clearly visible, followed by a summary matrix. The over(p99) column shows how much longer than requested the p99 sample took; a value near the requested duration indicates the OS is rounding up to a fixed floor.

Overview

Command timerbench measures the actual delivery latency of Go timers across a range of requested durations. It prints a histogram for the first duration that shows a significant regression, then a summary matrix.
