Mailchimp MCP Server

A Go Model Context Protocol (MCP) server providing full read+write access to the Mailchimp Marketing API v3 — 279 tools covering every endpoint.

The server communicates over stdio using JSON-RPC 2.0 — connect it to any MCP-compatible client.

Installation

Option 1: Go Install (recommended)

Requires Go 1.23 or later.

Option 2: Docker

Configuration

Getting an API Key

1. Log in to Mailchimp
2. Navigate to Account & billing → Extras → API keys
3. Click Create A Key
4. Copy the full key — it includes a datacenter suffix (e.g., -us2)

The suffix after the last - identifies your Mailchimp datacenter. The server uses this to route requests to https://<dc>.api.mailchimp.com/3.0.

Usage Examples

Campaign analytics:

"Show me the open rate and click rate for my last 5 campaigns."

The AI will call list_campaigns to find recent campaigns, then get_campaign_report for each to retrieve performance metrics.

Send a campaign:

"Create a new campaign called 'Summer Sale' for my main audience, set the HTML content, and send a test email to me first."

Uses list_audiences → create_campaign → set_campaign_content → send_test_email.

Subscriber management:

"Search for john@example.com, show me their activity and tags, then add a 'VIP' tag."

Uses search_members → get_member_activity → get_member_tags → manage_member_tags.

Abandoned cart automation:

"List my automations, find the abandoned cart workflow, and show me the emails and their performance."

Uses list_automations → list_automation_emails → get_automation_email_content and get_campaign_report for each email.

E-commerce sync:

"Create a new product in my store with two variants and a promo code for 10% off."

Uses create_store_product → create_product_variant (×2) → create_promo_rule → create_promo_code.

• Transport: stdio JSON-RPC 2.0 (compatible with any MCP host)
• Auth: HTTP Basic Auth — datacenter auto-detected from API key suffix
• Concurrency: Channel-based semaphore limits to 10 simultaneous connections (Mailchimp's limit)
• Retry: GETs retry on transient errors (429, 5xx) with exponential backoff; writes retry only on 429 with Retry-After header support
• Response cleaning: _links arrays stripped recursively from all responses, saving significant tokens
• Auto-pagination: FetchAll() helper automatically paginates Mailchimp list endpoints using offset/count
• Process lifecycle: Parent-process watchdog for clean shutdown; handles SIGINT/SIGTERM

Extensibility

The server can be used as a Go library with a custom credential provider — for example, to load API keys from a secret manager instead of environment variables:
